Merry Christmas, Love Sal & Georgie

Wednesday, December 06, 2006

We've been terribly, terribly absent here in Georgie Love land.... BUT! with good reason. Sally started a new day job and Georgie started a diet (and encouraged Sally to follow his lead, but Sally says in response "I don't eat extra snacks off the ground or out of bins and you do George, so the diet is yours).

So apart from new day job (yay! It's a good one but long hours) and Georgie Love (helllooooo Christmas rush) and my doctor-mister (who now works on the Georgie Love production line and is responsible for addressing, packing, posting, choosing the buttons to send AND postcards) PLUS trying to see friends regularly.... let's not mention housework, shopping, CHRISTMAS and the like.

So, busy times. HAPPY times, but busy. Hence the neglect of Georgie Blog and news of Georgie Land.

The main thing I should tell you about is the arrival of Dick & Dora to Georgie Love! Flown in direct from Hobart, they have the CUTEST range of birdy and bunny brooches. They are cute, quirky and extremely striking
(I love the litte dizzy birds and have been wearing one since they arrived)

We also have new wallets, badges, necklaces and more, so make sure you check it all out all our new things.

New artists on georgie love!

Just very briefly on this sunny Saturday afternoon in Melbourne (Yay!), I have TWO new artists to tell you about, now appearing on Georgie Love!

iJulie Knoblock is best known around town for her drawings and illustrations (and trust us, they are coming to Georgie Love!), however in the meantime, she has made us the CUTEST BAGS AND PURSES KNOW TO MAN. Sorry about the caps, but yes I AM squealing with excitment. Each one is a ton of beautiful colour, hand embroidery and craftmanship. Trust me, you will be squealing too, that is a promise! Julie has also let me know that she is also about to get to me another range of one-off bags and purses, so check again with us soon (and think about your best friend or sister for Christmas too, which people are meanly telling me is only 6 weeks away! Argh!).

Each handmade bag has a matching handmade purse available separately. :-D

Northey has also left me squealing (and I have to admit that I am usually NOT a squealer, so my point is, I am serious about this folks!), with her range of quirky, cute and downright fabulous range of jewellery. The talented lovely lady behind the creations (Jane) is a talented jewellery maker, and each one is made by hand (each silver piece is cut by hand or set by hand), the necklaces, chains and brooches are sterling silver and the other pieces are a mix of vintage tea-towels!

Ok, look after yourselves and your furry pets, don't stress too much about Christmas, drink good wine , eat home made lemon slice and keep in touch!

forever and a day

Okay yesterday was officially forever since I last updated this, but it's not due to laziness! Oh no! Georgie and I have been busy seeking out new artists for the site, getting them onboard, taking photos, writing stories, eating muffins and boston bun (mmmm!) and working nearly 50 hour weeks at our new job. So, VERY BUSY! Yes, yes, yes.

We bought a boston bun yesterday and the icing is about an INCH thick. I am having sugar overloads.... YUM! Georgie and the Doctor-Mister meanwhile are sugar-crashing on the floor and in bed (respectively).

Oh, I am distracted.

I have two brand new artists on Georgie Love as of YESTERDAY.

The magnificent Frankie & Ray (named after a persian cat and the most beautiful greyhound in the world) have given us two fabulous things - beautiful handmade belts in a range of 6 different pretty & girly designs.

Plus for the most luscious tea parties in the world (with whiskey tea, blueberry muffins and boston bun please), these gorgeous nanna-loving tea cosies! Yay!

(ps: those muffins were made especially for the photos AND for post photo gobbling, and they were pipping hot from the oven!)

The delightful Anna Murphy has given us these wonderful vintage fabric zippered purses, to hold 1,000,0001 different things. We have a range of different sizes and designs, so grabs YOURS now! Anna is a very talented sewer (even my fussy-sewer mum fussed over how beautifully they are made and finished off!) and she is soon to give us a range of one-off skirts in different new and vintage styles. WE ARE EXCITED! The one above IS my favourite design and I am thisveryclose to buying it myself, so get in before I do!

Mistress of the Upper Fifth has created this range of new perspex badges that are flying out the door, because they are 2016% cute! Ghosties, Kitties, Puppies and more!

Other than that, have a few new things on the cards for Georgie Love over the next few weeks, a new postcard design coming out in a few days, a one-off market stall so you can meet us in person and say hey...hmm... and of course a ton of new artist and things to inspire you before Christmas (which is sooner than I can bare to think)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, lovelies.... ! x

Lorne Weekend

Georgie Love's Beck Wheeler was mentioned in New York site "Cool Hunting" over the weekend, with a little tiny mention of Georgie Love. Beck is both a) very delicious b) very talented and deserves all the praise and recognition that she can get! She also has a brilliant exhibition on at the moment at the Lithuanian Club on Errol Street, North Melbourne which you SHOULD go check out, it's really quite fab and is apart of Melbourne's Fringe Festival so check it out.

Doctor-mister, Georgie and I just got back from a lovely and relaxing weekend (during the crazy full moon) at Countrywide Cottages (for your reference, we were in the igloo). They are beautiful self-contained cottages at Bambra, which is close to Lorne, on the Great Ocean Road. Really lovely place, very private, peaceful, a lovely owner, very dog friendly and lots to do on the 26 acres as well as near by.

The photo above was taken from the back porch about 7am Saturday morning. Beautiful views!

Now this week is a busy one, I have a new day job (which I am enjoying for a change), have a couple of new artists to meet and get online, so it's all good. I have been watching the unbelivably fabulous Love My Way on dvd and am fit to burst waiting for season two...

Dance magic dance!

We love all things quirky-dance-style at Georgie Love. I have already watched this video about 5 times. Ladies, gentlemen, puppies... I give you.. "Little Superstar"

Georgie and Josh

Well, it's been a crazy few weeks as I started a new day job, was sick (and I still have a little cough for), trying to catch up on all life stuff but now we are BACK. Mister-Doctor and I are in the middle of a liver cleanse detox, and I would KILL for a swimming pool filled with marshmallows, chocolate covered raspberries and smarties, all washed down with a super-sized coffee. YUM!

(I am feeling a little deprived it's true, but I am feeling good and look healthy)

Check out this cute photo a georgie love friend sent us a photo of her cheeky monkey loving his Georgie badge. Thank you Kylie! :-D

Ok, it's only 9pm, but I have the first season of Love My Way on dvd (loving it) and it is beckoning. Oh yes.

Thursday, September 28, 2006

I keep forgetting to type this, but the Doctor-Mister keeps reminding me. The other night I had a dream that Georgie and I had to go around singing Christmas Carols together, or else Christmas would be cancelled.

I wish I remembered more of the dream! That sounds awesome-cringey.

Back! Backish!

Well, Georgie and I are fit and on the road to recovery! During our languish in bed period, we watched 21 Jump Street, Love My Way, way too many cheesy Russ Meyers films. I am really not one for tv, but I have to say, I LOVE watching DVDs in bed, especially if I am FORCED to be there, and can be all cosy and warm with NO GUILT that I should be doing something else. George loves it too (he is sometimes allowed on the bed, especially if I am feeling sorry for myself).

We finished Press Gang a few weeks ago and I have to say... I hadn't seen all of season 4 and 5 before and I am kind of disappointed. The show really went downhill and was kind of farcical and slap stick and it didn't work. No it did not!

Doctor-mister and I saw Clerks 2 at the cinema and we didn't enjoy that either. I am now temporarily BANNED from making film choices. If you can recommend a good film to us, please let us know!

Now on to George Love, it's all back to business. Everyone should be receiving orders ok and on time (there was no lull or delay in that), we are back to work getting things organised. We had a cute afternoon and chat with lovely Liz Jones and her dog Chester from Betty Jo Designs in her studio about all the wonderful things she likes and makes. You can read that now.

Other Georgie news on the cards at the moment, new artists (of course), a market stall in Melbourne in time for Christmas, and the annual vaccination injections for Georgie. Uh. Well, he thinks it's important.

Take care of yourselves and get some sun today!

under the weather

Sally and Georgie are a little under the weather, hence the quiet for the past few days! We are lying around in bed, sulking, and watching episodes of 21 Jump Street, doing random searches on the colour green on ebay and not doing much work at all.... Orders are still being processed and sent out, our lovely man has been making regular trips to the post office (as well as to the chemist and to the fridge), so it's all okay...

More to come when we are back on our feet. Sorry for the delays in updating!

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Today is another Tuesday

Ok, this is in a rush, I am sleepy, hayfeverish, ridiculously excited about our new washing machine and concerned about an odd rash all over my arms that developed today(?).

HOWEVER, despite all of that self pitying lameness, I FINALLY have put Wendy June's beautiful art badges up on Georgie Love (with more to come!)...also the artist profile with s will be up TOMORROW, and there is more exciting things to come (new purses, journals, clothing and more!)... just you wait!

We've also made the decision to not stock Kooky Spooks. We absolutely LOVE Fleur, the Kooks and what she is doing, but the toys are designed, but not made, locally. Sorry to all Kooky Spooks fans who were excited about Georgie Love stocking her goodies. They ARE however available from Fleur's site -, so head over there.

Other than that, check us out at myspace and come say hello!

oh, and ... is that a storm rolling in? Yay!

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

Hmm... against my better judgement, you can now find us on myspace!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

Two of Georgie Love's artists are involved in exhibitions at the moment, that you should both know about and check out!

Textile Artist Melanie Hill is featured at Steps Gallery (62 Lygon Street, Carlton North) as a part of the HURRAH! Group.

HURRAH! is a group of artists who work in a diverse variety of mediums. Formed 14 years ago, the group exhibit bi-annually. HURRAH! 2006 is the group's seventh show, continuing to exhibit their established high standard of contemporary textiles.

Saturday 9th to Sunday 24th September 2006 (Monday to Saturday 10am-6pm...Sundays 10am-5pm)

Come and see work by Nola Bailey, Sally Darlison, Melanie Hill, Wanda McPherson, Marilyn Townsend, Gabriella Verstraeten and Alison Withers.

Amy Jade makes beautiful handmade journals on Georgie Love, but her real passion is ceramics. She is a part of the Connect_5 exhibition, an exhibition of recent ceramic works by a collective of five young Melbourne ceramicists. It is at the 4 Cats gallery (269 Johnston Street, Abbotsford) from 19 September to 14 OCtober, Tuesdat to Saturday 11am - 6pm.

Today I woke up all snug and warm in the dark and thought: "yay! it's the weekend, I am so going back to sleep"... and then it HIT ME. It's only Friday. I then looked at my clock and it was 5:59 - exactly one minute before my alarm was due to go off. Heart-wrenchingly AWFUL!

In good news, in the next week all kinds of new things are going to be on Georgie Love! I have 3 new artists up my sleeve, the quirky KOOKY SPOOKS (I have everything I need to pop them up, apart from time, hopefully that is going to happen shortly) and two other artists I am still talking to and hope to have them soon. Both I have been a big fan of for a while and am excited that they will be COMING ON BOARD. More details as they happen!

Ok, so this weekend the mister and I are getting in the little salmobile and driving all the way up to Albury and back again. I will be OUT OF CONTACT from 2pm today until Sunday afternoon. I will respond to all Georgie Love questions then.

In the meantime, big, fat george is staying at his grandparent's place, where he will be spoilt, overfed, walked twice a day and spend his time sitting around sulking by the front door and window, waiting for our return.

Have a good weekend folks!

A fabulous new blog showcasing Australian and New Zealand Designers called Moda Muse has been busy and have noted Georgie Love amongst their pages (thank you!). The ladies behind the blog are also the lovely, creative ladies behind Wild Garden Design, who make beautiful and delicate t-shirts and singlets (and funky things for men and the kiddies too!).

Here at Georgie Love, we gladly say "Hooray for Australian Design!" (or in George's language "Woooof... Aroooooooo").

Another thing we are fond of today is NEET magazine,a funky UK, online mag who are featuring the Love of Georgie.
As some kind of crazy experiment, or maybe necessity, I have finally been forced to include POSTAGE to Australia. 99% of things I send out cost $3.70 (I probably overwrap rather than underwrap little things), so I have added flat rate postage of $3.50 in Australia... Which isn't $3.70, but I am weird and like nice even, round, chubby numbers.

I woke up at 4am this morning and didn't go back to sleep, so I feel a little wooooooozy today. I don't think I woke up cause I was stressed, there was just an inexplicable puddle in the bathroom, and being the freak I am, couldn't sleep until it was all cleaned... (note that I didn't necessarily say be me, thank you doctor) and then I was awake and cranky..... it's now 11am and I am awakeish, but still cranky. ;-)

I think I will take a big stroll around the Carlton Gardens during lunch in the sunshine. Yay! Although the sun isn't out good and proper yet... I'll give it another hour.

Last things on a Sunday

It's been a funny ol' weekend. Very, very tired on Friday night and feeling a little sorry for myself, so I convinced the mister that we should watch an animal movie. See, I am a thirty year old, tough cookie(ish), with a secret passion for animal movies and documentaries (particularly about animals). They make me cry and happy all at once. Anyway, on Friday we watched the somewhat lame but entertaining 8 below. The essence of the story was about 8 dogs who survived almost 6 months (152 days) in antartica, fending for themselves.

I was tempted to do an experiment of leaving Georgie in the backyard on his own with a video camera, but by the time we get to 152 SECONDS, the poor dog would be chewing on his own leg out of hunger and desperation. He was not made for the outdoors. Or anywhere where snacks are not available on demand.

Sorry George, but it's true. As far as dogs go, you are LAME! Don't give me that look.

Okay, please excuse my reluctant male model, but I have awesome new t-shirts on Georgie Love from Embryo Graphics, paper packs from Applehead now for sale and almost, almost have Blythe's jewellery online too. It's been a busy weekend...

I don't know if I will get this all finished by tonight, but I have taken photos of Blythe's work, am editing it now and hope to post it online tomorrowish... This is a sneak preview of her quirky-cool recycled stamps and resin pieces.

It's nearly 5pm, so too late for an afternoon nap, but alas the weekend is OVER. :-( Hope you all had a good one.

Yay Spring!

Oh lordy, is that the sun? And could it be the WEEKEND?

I am ignoring the fact I have 3 photo shoots to do over the weekend, the sun is going to hide and it will probably end up raining and I have a ton of chasing things up to do, it's the weekend man! Hooray!

I am scheduling in 8 hours for sheer laziness... Oh shut up... at least 4. Ok, if I am caught dozing for half an hour on the couch, don't wake me, ok? ZzzzZzzzzz

(ps: you have also just discovered why I sell art, rather than make it!)

new things

Ok. I am sleepy (as usual, I need more... always need more... either that or a big, fat steak), but I am sleepy and very EXCITED. A big day for Georgie Love yesterday, ok well, bigger than usual. I collected items to photograph from 3 new fabulicious artists and I am fit to burst with excitement about all of them. I won't get to photograph and make up names and words for them all till the weekend...

Check out these vintage paper packs! How awesome are they! I am terribly addicted to them and imagine I will be the biggest buyer. I have a stack of these at home and can't wait, although I imagine it's me and other Georgie Love artists who will snaffle them all up.

Also have these awesome tees from male crafter Michael about to go up. The quality of his stuff is amazing and he is as passionate about locally produced, handmade items as I am (the t-shirts themselves are 100% cotton and made in Melbourne). It's about time the men got a look-in on the site, so I am rapt. I just need to locate a willing gentleman model by the weekend.

And finally, the lovely Blythe Toll makes pendants and brooches from vintage stamps (the designs are so cool!) and recycled architecture materials (?!). Each piece is a one-off and I have a tin full at home to photograph and play with. I shall be adorned shortly. Blogger won't let me add another photo.... you will all just have to wait and see, no sneak previews!

So all this, happening THIS WEEK.... Huge! All will be available for sale on the site at the start of next week (hopefully!). In the meantime, I am trying to wean myself off more than one (or two) episodes of Press Gang a day, spend quality time with the mister, spoil fat dog George, see friends, have a day job and uh... some relaxing time just for me? Hm.

Wednesday, August 30, 2006

I bought over 100 little jiffy bags (different sizes) and things on ebay, to send packages out. I know I will save money (in the long run) that way, but do I have a problem? I don't know where I will store it all.

In other words, I love this set of badges and am tempted to buy it for myself, but you really do not know how many badges I own... I just like all things foxy.

I am just sleeping at my desk now. ZzzzZZzzZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Do you know what is terrifying? How big my head is over on the left there, I mean woah! It looks different on a mac, with this new layout, I didn't ever realise that I HAD A GIANT HEAD DESTINED TO OVERTAKE THE WORLD AND GOBBLE UP ALL BLOG VISITORS.

Phew. Must change that.

Me, I am tired. I woke up at 5am and didn't go back to sleep and gave up at 5:30 to watch another episode of Press Gang. The entire series box set was a birthday present from my mister, who said to me the other night:

"I am not "mister right"...
I am not even "mister right now"...
I am mister "right after Press Gang"

The man may be living with regret... I am only mid-through season 2... out of 5. We were firmly engrossed in episodes of 21 Jump Street for a good long while (we have seasons 1-3 on DVD), but that got briefly waylaid. It's interesting to see if someone as an adult can get into Press Gang for the first time. I am pleasantly surprised that it is as good as I remembered.

Thursday, August 24, 2006

Today was a mix of office work, the exitement of finding the Jewellery Hangers from Leila and Pacquita at Rare Bird Finds, a catch up with Liz from Betty Jo designs, the possibiity (or initial discussions) of dinner and a movie and putting more fabulousy things online...

Like this Quincy Quail.... I put up 7 new Betty Jo Design Lino Badges, which are looking awesome! I have some artwork from Beck Wheeler to put up and the nly reason I haven't yet as I have to measure it all and frankly, I am lazy. I am intending to do it in the next day or so. Sorry Beck. :-(

Also, dodgy scones of yesterday are tasting awesome today! Yay! (and gobblegobblegobble).

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

I should send out a newsletter to all Georgie Love subscribers as there is a huge amount of change and new stuff coming on the site, however as there is LOTS also coming in the next week or so, I tend to put it off... I get too excited. I am taking on the first SYDNEY artist, she does some beautiful things with paper that will encourage the craft in us all... you will soon see...

Today was another busy / satisfying day of photography, a crappy-old-work related meeting, cooking blueberry scones using a US receipe (I DO love the site, indeedy), although the scones are a bit dodgy, I either kneaded them for too long or too many blueberries or the absence of cream of tartare or the fact I tried to make round rather than triangle scones as suggested in the receipe... anyway, the man, the dog and I have all had our fill (and then some) of their dodginess. Cooking is definitely a craft and I also discovered today that if you stack dirty dishes neatly next to the sink, it instantly tidies the kitchen, negating the need to wash them immediately. Yay! There is now a huge (but neat) stack next to the sink for some lucky punter. I will wrestle with the gentleman later until we have a clear washing-dishes winner.

I took some photos for Georgie Love today, after a quick visit with Gaye yesterday, she is now doing these beautiful yellow poppy wallets.

People who have bought Gaye's wallets tend to rave about them. They fit a ton of stuff, are sturdy, funky, well made and most importantly, beautiful. They are a signature product of hers and we are about to have a range of new designs. EXCITING!

And recycled woollen PodCosies. My favourite is the cheerily named Grandpa's Christmas Jumper PodCosy (once you see it, you will understand why I named thusly...). They are made from sadly forgotten woollen jumpers, reclaimed by Gaye (like the Armies) and recycled into new things. We love the whole life in old products philosophy at Georgie Love, so it's awesome!

Yesterday Margaret Lilley's adorable new zip wallet collection was posted. She works in the art of adorable and as such her stuff NEVER stays long on the site... I mean come on, look at this new one here I have posted. DO YOU THINK SHE IS TRYING TO KILL ME?

I have a few new button necklaces to go up... a new skirt, some men's t-shirts and more! It's all coming together.

Apart from all that, we're starting to think of a possible Vietnam holiday over the xmas break, which would be magnificent, soon to be looking for a house with a yard, fireplace, room for two studies and 10,001 books, designing a Georgie Love postcard of my very own and... I also really need a haircut.

Monday, August 21, 2006

Back from a lovely long weekend in the sunny city of Brisbane. Have a few more days off before I get back into the 9-5 work vibe.

Today has been a productive and happy day of:

Hanging out with George, after missing him over the weekend, catching up with each other's news. (George says he spent his time eating, sleeping and dozing in the sun, which, uh, is actually the same as me)

Eating left over surprise freddo frog 30th birthday ice cream cake (with a spoon). Yay! and Yum! I forgot it was in the freezer and had a burst of joy when I found it again.

Enjoying the sunshine and marvelling over the sudden appearance of blossom in the garden.

Taking photos of all kinds of exciting new things for Georgie Love! Like this super-cool (like the artist) painting from Beck Wheeler.

Georgie and I are now headed to pick our lovely man up from work and we will all take a stroll in the afternoon sun.

Wednesday, August 16, 2006

Where we be?

Please note that the staff of Georgie Love (ok, that mainly means me, Sally) will be taking a long weekend in QLD, for sunshine, drinking, eating, snoozing and catching up with very old friends. As a result it may take slightly longer for a response to Georgie Love queries. Leaving Thursday 17/08/06 and returning Sunday 20/08/06.

(Please note, the fat dog is staying in Melbourne and will read all your mails, he just isn't able to reply. He hasn't figured out paws and keyboard yet)

Home Beautiful

Georgie Love is featured in the September issue of Home Beautiful Magazine! Make sure you check us (and the jewellery hangers they took a fancy too) out!

Updates! Lordy!

Ok, it's been a hectic few weeks and I have been very absent in updating as a result. I turned 30, changed jobs, moved house and am a mess of boxes and nonsense (but Georgie and the Mac are ok, thanks for asking), but hopefully things in my life will be settling down very soon and I can shuffle everything back into order.

I have so much to update! Over the weekend, Georgie Love's Betty Jo Designs were in the "I Made it Myself" section of The Age, which is fabulous news for Liz Jones, the creative lady behind it all! I have an inkling that there is going to be a few Georgie Love artists appearing over the next few weeks or months which is terribly exciting!

In the September issue of Home Beautiful, Leila and Pacquita's beautful Jewellery Hangers are appearing on page 178 (I will have a scan very shortly). We also have two new designs from the ladies - Indian Rose and Bamboo Butterfly. The photos I had of the hangers were a bit dodgy so I have updated them all, and they look MUCH better.

One of the loveliest ladies, Mistress of the Upper Fifth has made these super-cute one-third purses with buttons.

I took a whole lot of photos of these purses with stuff in and around them so people can see how perfect a size they are!

I also have ton of new button sets to put up, which are photographed, edited and ready to go, but time and the lack of a reliable internet connection in the new home has prevented me. Look for them in the next few days.

Anika from Sneak is killing me with her cute making, from hair-pins, giraffe tees and badge sets. I peeked into her studio recently and the fairy-tale cute HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN. Lordy, she may kill me.

Other than that, the EXCITING NEWS FLASH!FLASH!FLASH! is that we have a secret new male crafter about to come on board, with his kick-ass cool tees for the boys. Keep a close eye on us for that one!

Margaret Lilley has also made us a whole new bunch of her purses, which is a very good thing as the last ones sold like HOTCAKES.
