Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Georgie Love!

We are very, very sleepy now, it's most probably nap time. Have a good one! xoxox

I'm Bringing Foxy Back

I am a fan of foxes and foxy things, so I am delighting in these FOXY badges from Made by White on Georgie Love. I only have 1 in black and 1 in orange at the moment (but chances are, more will follow). Cute!
ok! Well we have been nearly two weeks in the new house and it's lovely! Photos to come (as soon as I have the time to take some!!!) We are mostly unpacked now. Clothes are still in boxes and the Georgie Love office isn't as perfect as I would like (but it's workable) and we are still cleaning things and having to rehang washed curtains, but it is definitely homey, comfortable and on it's way to being all settled!

For any of you moving house, I recommend New Young Pony Club as the soundtrack. Very, very fun, upbeat and you can kind of do a robotic dance in time, while lifting and moving boxes (will demonstrate if requested).

Day-job is super busy as I try (possibly in vain) to have everything sorted before my 3 WEEK HOLIDAY, which starts Friday. Doctor-Mister is already on leave and it's about darn time that I got to join him. This weekend is a break from working, unpacking and sending Georgie Love packages to attend the delightful Meredith Music Festival. Am excited to have a few days camping, listening to some awesome music (I am looking forward to The Gossip and Art Brut the most!) and catching up with my friends with a few drinks.

It's a great festival and should be a fabulous time (and there are cheap tickets still available on ebay!).

Meanwhile, I believe I am doing an excellent job keeping up with the Christmas order rush (although Australia Post ARE doing their best to thwart me with late parcels and the odd breakages!). Will be far more fun when I am not distracted with the day job as well!

Gift Vouchers Now Available!

Hoorah! It's finally working as it should! Gift Vouchers are now up and running PROPERLY on Georgie Love! It's been something that never quite worked properly and is now ALL SYSTEMS GO just in time for Christmas.

Also, Doctor-Mister, in case you are wondering what I would like for Christmas, I have decided that it's definitely one of Emma Grace's BEAUTIFUL jewelery pieces. I am not one who really wears much jewelery, but I quite seriously and shamelessly COVET every piece of hers that sells on the site. They are just amazing. The heart pendants are gorgeous and delightful (without being hokey) and can be customised with whatever letters you like (eg: SM 4 GL)!

I probably shouldn't laugh, but these pics of Georgie from moving house day are a little funny. Don't be fooled - he had half the back seat to get comfortable in (the imac box was on the floor), but attempted to look especially pitiful while I was eating a croissant on the run in the front. Your look doesn't fool me George! (gobbles entire croissant to herself like a greedy, greedy thing)

Monday, December 03, 2007

Ok... we have moved! Finally! And I am at work (day job) and fading fast. The Zzzzzs are rapidly approaching. I am feeling REALLY sleepy.

(and we are hald unpacked and completely in love with the new house. It is beautiful! Photos and superlatives coming when we are more settled)

Oh and also, if you have sent an email to me or Georgie Love, I may not have received it. From Wednesday last week (and it appears to be fixed now), mails were arriving 3-4 days late and I think some not at all. As such, I am not being rude, just the victim of haywire technology!

More soon, so much to catch up on.

Thursday, November 29, 2007

After what feels like an ETERNITY, it is finally settlement and the whole moving house thing tomorrow and over the weekend. Georgie Love is entirely up-to-date (ok, maybe another order or two to get out early tomorrow). There should be minimal disruption to it all, maybe I just will be not available to answer email queries over the weekend.

Looking forward to it! Well, looking forward to it being some time next week and it all being over!

Back soon! Have a good weekend!

a favourite

Melbourne folk and those soon to visit, if you haven't checked out the in.cube8r gallery yet, you should! Located on Smith Street in Fitzroy, it's a secret fave shopping point of ours!

A fabulous (and completely innovative - the idea is genius) centre for crafty folk (makers and LOVERS). It's been around for nearly 6 months, Georgie Love are BIG fans of their work. It's a gallery space (& shop) where artists can lease spaces to display their work - and if you love something, you can buy it on the spot.

in.cube8r was created to support all things craft, art and hand-made in Melbourne and you know we can only love and get behind that!

Jumping on the Biddy-Bandwagon

Tara from Dudley Redhead posted about these charmingly fabulous biddy bags and I have to admit, I LOVE them and I am just trying to decide which one I want (and I will have chosen and bought it by the time I finish, but I can't decide between about 10 of them!) Each one is unique and a perfect everyday bag size, and delightfully - printed on the inside pocket of every unique Biddy Bag is the story of its maker.

I am really passionate about craft and community and Biddy Bags certainly fits in with that ideal! It's a non-profit social enterprise and each of the fabulous older lady bag makers are contracted on a bag-to-bag basis and benefit through profit-share and increased social interaction.

For each bag sold the woman who crafted it receives over half of the profit with the remainder being used to cover operational costs and to expand the enterprise’s reach.

Thank you so much for blogging about this Tara - I wouldn't have found it otherwise!

(and the picture is of the one I bought and yes of course it's green - because I am obsessed)

Georgie Love Christmas Wrapping

Georgie Love is now offering Christmas gift wrapping. We are not professional wrappers, but we are reasonably crafty and will make your gift look pretty nifty with paper, handmade tags, buttons, enthusiasm and festive wrapping.

Each $3 gift wrapping purchased will save YOU the bother of wrapping it and the whole $3 will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to support their important work in conservation. Win-win!

Donations can also be made directly through the WWF website also.

handmade pledge

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

Something I support wholeheartedly, passionately (you know I am all about the craft) is the wonderful BUY HANDMADE pledge for the holiday gift giving. Sally and George have now signed up. I am already handmadey sorted for most of my presents, but my Dad is going to pose the real challenge... !

In the words of the website (I was cheeky and just cut and pasted)

Why buy handmade?
Buying Handmade makes for better gift-giving.

The giver of a handmade gift has avoided the parking lots and long lines of the big chain stores in favor of something more meaningful. If the giver has purchased the gift, s/he feels the satisfaction of supporting an artist or crafter directly. The recipient of the handmade gift receives something that is one-of-a-kind, and made with care and attention that can be seen and touched. It is the result of skill and craftsmanship that is absent in the world of large-scale manufacturing.

Buying handmade is better for people.

The ascendancy of chain store culture and global manufacturing has left us dressing, furnishing, and decorating alike. We are encouraged to be consumers, not producers, of our own culture. Our ties to the local and human sources of our goods have been lost. Buying handmade helps us reconnect.

Buying handmade is better for the environment.

The accumulating environmental effects of mass production are a major cause of global warming and the poisoning of our air, water and soil. Every item you make or purchase from a small-scale independent artist or crafter strikes a small blow to the forces of mass production.

Yay!

I AM IN LOVE

With this site. Handmade with Love by Hannah AND Handmade with Love by Grandma. Oh Grandma, I love your crotched goodies too!

I just stumbled upon it quite randomly (and I am well known amongst my friends for stumbling on either odd, offensive or life-changing sites. This one comes under life-changing), but I am IN LOVE WITH THESE SKIRTS. Each one is handmade per order, they have little and big sizes and reasonable international shipping.

I will be back. Oh yes. Hannah and Grandma, I be seeing you soon! (just let me get through Christmas and moving costs first)

Happy Updates and Horror

In between stuffing boxes for the move (and yes, this really DOES feel like the longest move known to man), I have been putting on Georgie Love possibly the BIGGEST UPDATE KNOWN TO MAN. Seriously, I feel like there is something new on there very day. And when I said I was planning for a really big Christmas, I DID NOT LIE! You can check out some of the new stuff here. There are tees, pendants, bags, purses, cards and a lot more.

Phew. I am so distracted with the site and moving though, that I DID turn up to a wedding on the wrong day. :-( Which I have never done in my life. Adam and I shamefully went to their home the day after (and it was totally my fault - I put it in my diary wrong) with our gift and a sorry expression on our face. Still, we ate lovely wedding cake with them, saw some pics and got to hug and give our best wishes to the couple. I however am filled with shame and horror. Horror!

In the meantime, check out some of the cutest Christmas tags and other cards from lovely Dudley Redhead Tara. She still has more to come online for us! Hooray! (this heals my shame a little bit)

I am a crazy lady who dresses her pet.

I bought this bow-tie for George for Christmas functions (as previously stated, Georgie IS a boy dog, despite his lack of manly-dog attributes). I think it looks SPECTACULAR. I bought it from this lovely etsy maker who sent it out QUICK SMART.

Georgie is COMING SOON to a party near you. Dressed to the nines. Or at least like a dapper old man.

In other news, we are moving house in two weeks. Which is crazy - particularly when I look around the house and do a mental stock take of what IS and IS NOT packed. I can't wait, our whole family (Doctor-Mister, Georgie and I) are all very excited. When I am not packing (or pretending to be packing), I am posting 1001 new things on Georgie Love for sale for Christmas. I have 1002 left to do...

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Adorable!

I love these cute animationy type film-clips and this one is SO CUTE! And also just a little bit Christmassy

First, second or third taste of Spring

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL sunny day today and I got enough of it at breakfast and a lovely trip to the Botanical Gardens Market to give me sunburn on my neck and chest. I THEN spent the rest of the day indoors packing for the forthcoming move (YAY!) and doing the TON of Georgie Love work that awaited me.

THERE IS SO MUCH stuff coming online in the next week (just in time for Christmas), that it's implodingly exciting.

Meanwhile, George himself is bored and annoyed with all the inside work, as he sits by my feet in the studio and waits for me to do something more exciting. Shut up George.

Thank you to Cuteable Finds who gave a shout out to Georgie Love and Julie Knoblock's adorable bags and purses! Naked trees for all!

Friday, October 26, 2007

In an email I sent to Doctor-Mister today...

"I NEED this"

the link attached.

Ha! I LOVE it!

Friday, October 19, 2007

Alright! Building inspection was OK, finance has been approved, so it is all official-official now. Dr-Mr and I (and George) have finally bought a place in the hills of Melbourne, which will be the new Georgie Love HQ. We are the (very) proud owners of a 3/4 acre property which is full of ferns, very old and tall trees, jasmine, wisteria, walnut and apple trees and 1 million other plants that I can't name.

It is beautiful and very quiet and we are very excited! The picture below is from our new balcony. We move in on November 30, which feels like forever away, but will arrive in no time at all, due to how busy we are... and now there is more to do.

Monday, October 01, 2007

Well... I last posted a month or two ago and the NEW HOUSE congratulations are STILL coming in. Thank you, thank you everyone for your lovely words and wishes.... BUT!!!! After it was all systems go with the house, the building inspection was dreadful and we pulled out. So Georgie Love HQ is still a little shack in Abbotsford. We have a few irons in the fire and will hopefully have happier house news soon!

Apart from all that disappointment, the most BEAUTIFUL PRESENT arrived in the mail today. All Georgie folk know I am enamoured with Julie Ramsden's magnificent crotched creations, BUT LOOK AT THIS! A GEORGIE DOG DOLL! I love it and I think it may star in the next Georgie Love postcard. I LOVE IT! It's a special little thing.

I took a very dodgy photo in the dark without flash, so I can't see the crazy amount of details (even the little collar has a sewn buckle!). I will have to take a better photo in the daylight soon!

Thank you so much Julie!

New GL HQ!

(this is the view from the new front door)

In other news, Georgie Love HQ are moving again! This time a bit more permanently! The Doctor-Mister and I have just bought a little cottage in the middle of a forest. Very exciting! Georgie will have half an acre to run around in and plot global craft domination!

Bad part is, we don't move until November! How can WE WAIT THAT LONG *implodes*.

My new favourite thing!

I am just uploading (right now) the unbelievably special and fabulous toys from mega-talent Julie Ramsden on Georgie Love. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these toys, they are WONDERFUL. I can't decide which one I love most so I am about to ask Julie to make me a special GEORGIE-DOG toy (she apparently does commissions for pets).

Each toy is a one-of-a-kind (it's true - no two toys are anything alike!) made from abandoned wool found in op shops and can take up to 12 hours per toy!

In other news, I am about to spend my birthday weekend (31 will be a luck yyear) looking at houses to buy in the middle of a forest with doctor-mister, which is not a bad way to spend the day. News of any purchase will be forthcoming...

Kiva

Justine Hofman sends fortnightly tips about simple ways to live a little greener. They are simple, effective and very welcome! Her last email was about http://www.kiva.org, a fantastic organisation I had never heard of (but am very happy to now!), as Justine says:

"Let me introduce you to Kiva (www.kiva.org), a website that enables you to become a micro-lender and help change the life of someone in a third world country for the same as it costs to eat pizza at Mr Wolf.

Kiva enables you to give a small loan to a budding entrepreneur who wants to move out of poverty and into a better life. The website lists people in need of a loan and you can lend as little as $25. Repayment is usually within 6 – 12 months and throughout the loan period you get journal updates on the business you've sponsored. You can also loan to a number of people at any given time.

I've been loaning through Kiva for almost a year and so far my loan to Dorcus Kihumpwa in Kenya has helped her to buy 4 Steers to rear and sell. Rosita Novedafes in Mexico has used my loan to buy more stock for her shop to grow her business and the loan to Fifty Nahr in Gana has meant she can design new textiles to sell in her local market. Once the loans are repaid, I plan to reinvest the money into another business.

Kivas truly is a brilliant concept and while you might not win a Noble Prize for you efforts like micro-credit pioneer Muhammad Yunus, believe me you'll feel like you have!"

Indie Art & Design is a wonderful weblog featuring products made by independent Australian artists, designers & craftspeople. They recently interviewed Georgie-Dog and myself and you can read all about us online! Thank you Indie!

Friday, June 22, 2007

The magnificent Northern Exposure Artist Market is on THIS WEEKEND! Please come down and support locally made, fantastically talented artists and designers. Many Georgie Love artists will be there selling their delights. We will be heading down to check it out (and spend our own hard earned cash!) Make it a "must do" this weekend!

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

It was a half work (day job) and half play long weekend in the beautiful city of Warrnambool over the weekend and we had a wonderful time, eating, strolling on the beach, exploring the local sites and afternoon naps. Perfect!

Hope Street

It is an embarrassment of riches in Melbourne with the number of high quality, regular markets available for crafty folk and we are very happy and belatedly reporting the wonderful launch of the Hope Street Markets. Please go, have a fabulous time and support the local and emerging artists in your state (it's well worth it!)

The markets are based in Surry Hills in the heart of Sydney and thy are a non-profit organisation. The markets will be donating money from the markets to help support Hope Street - Urban Compassion projects helping bring Hope to the streets of Sydney’s homeless.

We hope to make it to the next one!

What's new in Love

This week Georgie and I are in love with:

1. Kristen Doran Design - she makes the most beautiful fabric designs that are cute and quirky. Someone please make me some cushions! Or an apron! Or pinafore! I don't care what.

We also really like her blog, which is adorably named cheeky beaks! You can buy her (and a million other pieces of wonderful fabric) at Duck Cloth. Yay!

2. This album by !!!. We can't stop listening to it in the car on the way to work.

3. The new toys on Georgie Love by the fabulously named Tricky George! Cute! Cute! Cute!

4. My wonderfully snug Armies! It's FREEZING at the moment and these are perfect for driving to work in a very cold (old) car as I can still grasp the wheel, plus they are recycled, funky and each pair is original! We are happy to see that wonderful doggy (& Kitty) blog Prefurr has jumped onto the Armie train too!

5. And just how wonderful is the Prefurr blog! We will definitely be regular visitors to this wonderful site!

Things We Love

Georgie Love loves:

1. Animal people

2. Dog Lovers

3. People and organisations who support animal related charities and organisations (and we are particularly fond of the RSPCA who brought George and Sally together).

We've just discovered Pet Project, an Australian organisation (selling adorable collars, we are an absolute SUCKER for doggy accessories) who donate $1 from every sale to their 'pet friendly' chosen charity, the RSPCA.

For King Georgie (yes, he is a boy), I am contemplating this awesome Funk Meister one.

Sunday, May 27, 2007

Ok, I have one of the worst headaches known to man (ouch) and painkillers are about to render me a drooling and sleepy idiot, however, finally the CUTEST SCARVES in the world, nay the universe are online. Zooblast is the lovely maker and you should check her stuff out (it's fab).

Second to that, these LAMBY PIE badges make me feel all funny inside with their cute and cheeky ways. I think this is the only accessory I need for winter as I will be wearing them EVERYWHERE. Thank you Allira Tee... you have delighted and possibly ruined me!

I have some new toys and clothes sitting on my dining room table to photograph and set online, but unfortunately my brain has determined that won't be happening today. The wait will be worth it though... these new ones are special (and I will give you an idea with the fact they are called meeowls!)

Ok it's nap time now!

Kate Nash - Foundation

I'm obsessed with this song and filmclip. She is living in my dream house! Yum!

Distractions

It's been SO COLD lately. It makes me want to curl up in front of a movie and do NOTHING. Which is an impossible dream. (Don't get me wrong, I love the cold, the wet and being busy) I have a kitchen table full of the CUTEST kitty scarves for Georgie Love, which are half photographed, I just need to take some with a glamorous model.

My usual model is the lovely GEMMA, woman of craft, great chef and world's easiest person to photograph and all around patient person willing to do it. However, I don't often get to see her during daylight, so they are ON HOLD.

Other unfortunate models have included GEORGE the DOG, the DOCTOR-MISTER and uh during one desperate weekend, Me. A photogenic friend of mine has just moved back to the state so my pool of potential models is growing. It's usually a trade, stand still long enough for me to snap your picture and I will stuff you full with home cooked food and decent wine. Fair enough deal, I think.

Friday, May 18, 2007

My favourite things of today:
Finger puppets, check out this maker on etsy. OMG! I want to buy 20, but I can only wear 10 at once. THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!!! Seriously, which ones to buy?

1. Lion
2. Monkey
3 Bear
4. Cow
5. ????????? Frog? Puppy? Gnome? Chicken ????????

It's May! Oh God, already? Really?

Well, it's been another too long period between posts (but it's my May resolution to update more! This rainy weather is inspiring. In the meantime however, have you NOTICED how much new stuff George and I have been putting up on Georgie Love?

I haven't the brain power to tell you everything (and if you want to be constantly informed, create an account and join our newsletter!)... Anyway, my top 5 favourite things at the moment (mind you Georgie Love is exactly my tastes, so really, I love everything....)

In no order of preference....

1. Boy and Balloon Brooch from Allira Tee. It's cute, quirky, made of wood and looks fantastic on anything you can put it on! Allira Tee is a super talent, with a range of both sweet and quirky pins for you!

2. Climbing Branch Silver Pendant from Emma Telford. Emma is a very new (and very lovely) friend to Georgie Love and we think her pendants are TO DIE FOR. Delicate, hand-cut silver work, you can't go wrong!

3. Large Picture Pendants from Northey. We have been a BIG fan of Northey for ages (no one else makes stuff similiar to hers!), her work is unique, fun and unusual... all things we love!

4. The new range of hairpins from Sneak! She has updated her whole range and there is new pins, badges and long-sleeved tees. Each one is like a little storybook tale! She's another original.

5. Ladies Love the Beach mini-wallets from Gaye Abandon! They come in 4 different styles from fantastic retro postcards. Gaye's signature creation is her range of brilliantly made (and kooky designed) wallets. Everyone who has one raves over it.

I feel like I am neglecting all of the other children (I mean really, have you seen the adorable brilliance of Made by White? Or the cutest baby button earrings known to man, by Brooke Johnston?)

Till next time! It's lucky it's raining, because it's another weekend of photography for Georgie Love! Come back soon and come back often!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGIE LOVE!

It's hard to believe, but TRUE! Georgie Love is turning one on the 14th of April and we are taking the WHOLE month of April to celebrate. Yay! It's hard for us to believe that this little website we created has become a little bit bigger website. George and I wanted to send a very, very big thank you to all our Georgie Friends out there in the world (we are quite sincere, we'd love to take you all for snacks and walkies if we could).

To celebrate we are having a month of MASSIVE giveaways (well, massive to this one-girl, one dog operation):

Our very first prize for our first birthday is from creative superstar Beck Wheeler (it's true, she is becoming huge and not in a too many schmackos kind of way). Beck has painted us a very special Georgie Love themed painting worth $2 kazillion dollars (or maybe $200ish). It's original, one of a kind, ridiculously cute and it could be yours if you make any kind of order in April.

Equal Second prize is 2 x $50 vouchers to spend on anything that takes your fancy at Georgie Love.

Anyone who signs up to the Georgie Love mailing list in April will also be in the running to win one of two surprise mixes of accessory-ish items. I stock a ridiculous amount of things at the Georgie Love headquarters / homestead in Abbotsford and it will will involve as many things as I can grab and stuff in bags at any one time. So spread the Love and everyone can win!

Seriously though - a huge thank you to all of you, we of course couldn't do this without you and are so chuffed and priviledged that we get to bring some fabulous creative folk we love to your homes (we are very passionate about the handmade craft scene and we love doing it)

Happy very first birthday!

Tedious

Georgie finds photography and work days tedious and choresome. However, the humans are excited about all the new things to be on the Georgie Love site in the next 24-48 hours. New paintings! Brooches! Bags! Bracelets! T-shirts! Those little beady-eyed things in the box are puppy and kitty scarves and are SO CUTE.

Wait and see.

Georgie Loves New Wallets

It's been a long time between blogs and I need to find a witty new opener other than that to each new entry. Georgie Love is going through some artist changes and updates and as a result, we have a million and one new things (yes literally a million and one, I counted them myself*)

I am still terribly in love with the work of te., who made me a special request brown and green larger wallet (a similar design will be on Georgie Love hopefully soon!)

The wallet is unbelievably soft and is wearing like a dream. As with all of te.'s stuff, the photos don't do his work justice, if you think they look good in the pics, the look better in person (and often have surprise and very fun design elements to them). I have shown everyone I know my wallet.

The Doctor-Mister got one of these in brown and it's also magnificent. It's compact yet holds everything and although made from a strong, wrinkled design leather, it's wearing in beautifully. Georgie Love is a gigantic fan!

Now I am desperately tossing up the idea of a new te. bag...

As always, you can check out all the wonderful new things in our new products section. There are loads!

despite my best intentions... and new things!

In the longest delay between updating Georgie Love (The Blog Edition) returns to you TRIUMPHANT from a Christmas / New Years / House Move / Busy Day Job bonanza! I always have the best intentions to write regularly (and it's justifed, we really have so much going on at Georgie Love). Somehow though, it all falls to the wayside.

To kick off the New Year and also nearly the first birthday of Georgie Love, we have two very new, very wonderful and very exciting new artists for your pleasure.

Magnificent male-crafter Jarren with his Te. brand (I never remember to ask what this word means in Japanese and if you know, please let me know!) of leather work is now available. He makes beautiful bags, wallets and belts (for lovely girls and boys). They are entirely handmade from treating, colouring and creasing the leather himself to handstitching his label onto it. I love them and in a fit of indecision as to which wallet I want (I do desperately want a new one and I NEED one too.. but then again I NEED at least one of everything that is sold on the site).

I think Te. is going to be BIG and entirely AWESOME, so make sure you buy yourself (or your lovely other person) something nice while you still can.

Now, for something completely different, the very nice lady Penny, with her very cute brand Cinnamon Moon has given us some adorable and affordable bags and coin purses to make shopping fun and anyone who sees them SQUEAL with GLEE. Oh yes! My personal favourite is the drunk rabbit series, which means I am either a big fan of bunnies, wine or more likely both... get yourself one of her one-off goodies NOW!

Other things it's probably been forever since I told you about: way cool Phantom Badges, new Armies, new Necklaces and new design wallets from Gaye Abandon. Yay!

In the words of Mr T, take care of yo'selves, foos.
