blah-blah-blahdiddy-blah

I am without MOJO this week. It's been a rough week, mainly because the beautiful babe has decided on 5am starts, shortened her naps and has decided that nothing she USED to be interested in, interests her now. So it's a long day of finding new things to entertain her - lots of dancing, reading, walks, park trips (now that the weather allows again) and visits to people and weird things. I will let her play with just about anything (sharp, pointy objects excluded. Just.) if it entertains her for a minute. I don't mind how messy she gets - I never did though, I'd rather she play / explore / have a good time, everything can be washed, including babies. So sure Rubes, here is a packet of flour and when you get bored with that, you will find the cocoa and vegemite behind. Nothing else is getting done. So last night I put her in bed and said to DrMr, I am having an early, early night and was just dropping off to dream land when the crying started. We all eventually went to sleep after midnight. With another 5am start. I say to you UGH! And more importantly, this coffee is AWFUL.

Oh yeah, Rubes is getting teeth. Um... ALL OF THEM at once. Her molars seem to be coming though, there are white bits on the surface there and her canines are swollen and it's only JUST starting to feel rough around those first front milky teeth. She's doing it all completely backwards.

I have a TON of new toys and things for her, but they are packed away for her birthday and Christmas, neither of which is very far away. I know this is very normal and we will figure it out, but I thought maybe the LEGIONS of experienced MAMAS out there could share their favourite games / activities that they played with their ones and almost ones out there? I think I need some new ideas.

I always had plans to join the local Steiner playgroup (it's craftier than the normal one) when she was 12 months, but I think we might start earlier as she does love playing with other little dudes.

I'm not sure this helps at all, and I have not reproduced myself yet, but my goddaughter is massively into RICE. She likes a big pot of uncooked rice with a few smaller pots and plastic cups in it and she seems to spend hours playing with that. It seems to be ueber-interesting. I congratulate you heartily on being able to type on this little sleep - may the force be with you etc etc!

Is TODAY haircut day? Or was it Friday? See, not doing MASSIVELY well, forgetting these Very. Important. Things.!

And great idea, since everything is in the mouth at the moment, with hysteria as I try and remove clumps of doghair, cobwebs (!) and foil from her mouth.

Always go back to the basics.....cardboard boxes, wooden spoons and saucepans...they win every time!!! If her gums are really starting to play up, put some wet face washers in the freezer to chill down and she will love sucking on them. Good Luck Just remember......In time this too shall pass!!

Aaarrghghggh, the dreaded 5am starts...this household knows them well. Roll on daylight saving, I know it's all psychological but 6am is so much more reasonable than 5am no?

What about "painting" with flour - put down a piece of plastic, tip out some flour and let her paint with her hands. HazMo loves it (he's 9.5 months). He also loves being out amongst other little people, so a playgroup is a grand idea (and they get to play with toys that are not their own, which babies seem to just love).....

Good luck!

It's Friday - counting down the days. Clutching tresses. Feeling distressed. No just kidding - looking forward to looking like a human again!

Oh, I'm sorry. How horrible. We're v familiar with 5am in this house, older boy has been getting up then all his wee life. Younger one is just one, and also getting hideous molars, and also whingey and crap over night, but not as bad as Ruby because he has older brother to beat him into submission!
I wish I could tell you that there was a magic toy out there... but I don't think there is. Just remember, this too shall pass! Maybe in a month, maybe tomorrow! Meanwhile, I recommend having low expectations and just doing whatever makes you feel human during the day.

I seem to remember doing a similar - help I need SOMETHING post around Poppy's first too. It does pass and the attention span will expand from flea to ant and get better. Soon you will be playing the same wiggles card game for hours on end - that would be better - NO?!

oh, poor you! I am so thankful that Daniel has daycare a couple times a week... at least that's some time I don't need to be amusing him directly.

Daniel's three biggest loves right now (11 months) are:
peek-a-boo / chasey / some combination thereof (very parent-intensive);
stacking cups / shape-o / anything that fits inside anything else;
watching adults play Wii Resort, as long as he gets his own controller (we don't put any batteries in his, but he's cottoned on to that as his doesn't have a pretty blue light!).

We also get mileage out of wet facewashers, chunky fridge magnets, anything large that he can move himself or climb on (plastic furniture, trolleys etc), and anything that makes loud noises.

He's also pretty fond of Swedish-style ginger biscuits, but I try to use those as a last resort if I *really* need five minutes to myself. DH gave him a half-finished Chupa-Chup last night, probably not the best parenting move ever but BOY did it work. Hah.

hope this helps, and hope you get some respite soon! :)

a glimmer of hope your way...Grace woke at 5am for many, many months and then all of a sudden it was 6 and then 6.30 without needing any attention until 7am!Not much help since I have absolutely no idea why and Grace is keeping mum on the subject but here's hoping that Ruby gets over the early bird bit soon.
Grace's favourite way to pass the time at the moment is to eat her big sisters' flavoured tubes of lip balm (not so popular with the big sisters'),carry around and sleep with small jars or tubes of eczema/rash cream(organic of course)or throw anything she can find down the stairs. I prefer to keep her amused by giving her plastic bowls full of soap bubble foam from the washing up and a spoon to mix with or just a bowl of water and a few small cups. She likes to add leaves and twigs and rose petals as well as the odd stray pea or weeto that has rolled under the table.
Frozen green peas and corn were her favourite thing to munch on when she was growing any of her four teeth. Grace seems to have decided to stop with four as they seem to be all she needs to eat steak, stray feet from Bratz dolls and the occasional finger.
