My sad little sick sausage. Background blurred, because I had xmas presents sitting on the bench behind me. Whoops.

Chaos. In a not very interesting portrait.

Ok, so I have missed nearly a week of Blogtober, which is not just negelectful, it's BAD. Have had a very frustrating week from my day job and I try not to get worked up about a place I am only at 2 days a week, but some how the grumpiness has creeped out and tainted the rest of the week. I will get there. Just don't expect chirpiness on Wednesdays and Fridays at the moment.

Rubes has a temperature and is not keeping her bottles down. She is otherwise in good enough spirits and sipping water ok. Am about to try some cereal for her and see how she goes, but it's her first proper temp so I am a little antsy.

Anyway, I took these photos days ago, to play along with Pip and Lexi.

My favourite corner. DrMr is fortunately very patient with me and just lets me go crazy witht eh decorating, which is a mish-mash of no styles and just whatever makes me happy. This is the corner going from the second story up to the third. The giant and WONDERFUL wolfy decal was meant for a door, but it was a little too big (my fault Lyndsay!), so DrMr and I made the executive and wine inspired decision that the wolfy would be running down the stairs. The tree is also a Made by White creation, with various prints and paintings, a blink clock, paper birdy (I am obsessed with paper things) and wooden mushrooms. Oh and see that BAG hanging on the end, made from wonderful Momo fabric? I MADE THAT. It's our library book bag. Unfortunately under the stairs a collection of boxes is also visible.

My favourite shelf - harder, since the shelves are mostly crammed with books, papers, toys and baby related paraphernalia. This is the shelf behind my Georgie Love desk, it's at the top of the stairs going down into the first level (kitchen), so you sort of walk past them and down. It's a mess of dvds, prints that I haven't got around to framing yet, Frankie calendar (love!) which as I have an electronic diary, I never write on, magic 8 ball, birthday crowns DrMr bought for my birthday in AUGUST (yep, haven't got around to putting them away yet), a photo of Rubes with DrMr's best friend and his daughter, um some Georgie paintings that made their way onto postcards, candles as we lost power like 5-6 times in Winter, a chalkboard to do decal (again Made by White which is usually a mess of post it notes rather than chalky notes and was obviously taken on a day when I was ORGANISED, are you sensing a theme? I love those ladies). And finally there is a pile of zines, recipes and invitations that I need to respond to in a pile.

MOST LIKELY my favourite shelf is in the fridge! I am a foodie, so I get an enormous sense of well being when I open the fridge and it is filled with a million different good things to eat and make.

Bedside table. Which I didn't touch before photographing it and I probably should have, in viewing some of the lovely, tidy ones I have seen. Next to WORLD'S BEST DOONA COVER. Um, books, books, books two seperate book lights for late night reading (the green proper one died, so I am using an IKEA nightlight for under the covers. Tissues, bottled water, ventolin and lip balm (Burts Bees for me). A lemongrass smelling candle they gave me for free when I bought the bedside tables, which has obviously never been lit. And another pile of books.

View from the door. Wherever DrMr and I are, I always have to have the side of the bed closest to the door - I don't care about left or right sides, I care about QUICK EXITS. And more paper goodness. I am obsessed with paper garlands. OBSESSED. Our house is not super-fancy, but it's COSY. The bedrooms are on the third level and so have a sloping roof and the 70s swedish bath house wooden wall decor. Lovely.

No news today, we are too busy enjoying the sunshine.

Don't worry we are wearing our (slightly ridiculous) sun hats.

But look who else dropped in for another visit today!!!

My All Girl Band Gang

I have always wanted to have a 1980s all-girl hair metal band. The band's name will be VOODOO PANTIES. I am, of course, lead singer and my stage name will be HARPIE MINDSLUT.

There are still spots left in the group, obviously.

Stupid things I have done (today)

Today I induced some kind of odd tongue injury, because I was straining so hard to lick toothpaste off my chin.

(this blog is proudly picture free, because I did a google image search for tongue and some of the pictures made me feel REALLY queasy) :-(

Let's all meet up in the year 2000

Do you think if I post like a MADWOMAN today, it excuses the fact I didn't post anything yesterday. YES, ME TOO.

In the 1930s, they imagined what we would be wearing in the year 2000. I can only WISH to be so tailored and impractically attired. With electric head light and all.

I don't mean to be melodramatic or anything...

... but if I don't see some sun soon, I THINK I MAY DIE.

STUFF! And as an added bonus to STUFF, googling "Ridiculous Dog Costumes" is the most joyful thing ever!

YOu very clever people probably already know this, but Meet me at Mikes have put a call out for new Crafters, which is a WONDERFUL opportunity, so if you make something - I would definitely recommend that you throw your hat into the ring.

(photo courtesy of Meet Me At Mikes)

ALSO if you are interested in selling your work and don't know where to start, Craft Vic have organised another seminar on selling your work. It's on the evening of 9 November, I don't actually know if it's sold out yet, because the last one sold out very quickly, so if you are interested head over and book yourself in. Discussed are selling in a retail outlet, online (which is presented by Georgie Love) and markets. It's a good opportunity to find out about how to do it, where to start and even get some ideas about options you might not have thought about before. If you miss out again, rumor has it that they are planning to hold them regularly from now on.

It's Friday! I only work in an office 2 days a week, one of them being a Friday and I STILL feel the Friday joy. Which is good because I had the blahs this week.

It's a trifecta of goodness!

Things that freak me out....

When I open an email without looking at the title or text too closely and I see an image downloading (AT WORK MIND YOU) with the title:

303K View Download "

Which WAS fortunately a handmade child's beanie, in the shape of a CAT that was in fact pink in color.

That picture above also freaks me out. I GRANT TODAY, GREY WEDNESDAY with a BIG WTF?! AND SORRY TO EVERYONE OUT THERE. Where are my sensibilities?

you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have..... ?

I'm petering out for blogtober!

I think my mood is too matching for the grey weather outside. It's been an extremely tedious day at work so far. ACK.

Where I complain a lot and alienate people.

So, I missed a day for blogtober yesterday. I was planning on talking about two things, either:

1. How much those idyllic blogs give me the shits. You know the ones, where life is rosy, posy perfect and everything is filtered through muted sunlight and we are all SO VERY HAPPY AND WELL ADJUSTED and my children are perfect and my partner is perfect and gosh darnit, aren't I cute and quirky and have THE MOST PERFECT TASTE IN EVERYTHING. Bleurgh. The sugar saccharine makes my teeth hurt and my belly sick. And I was thinking, is that what I do? I don't think so, I try to be as honest and straight forward about my life as possible, but am I accurate? Do people get an honest idea about it? My life, as happy as it does make me, is not idyllic. I live in a lovely foresty area, but our house is cramped and cluttered and ENTIRELY inappropriate for having babies in, so I need to be watching Rubes AT ALL TIMES and I have been having middle of the night anxiety (when the best and most stupid anxiety strikes) about cleaning the windows, as it's my obsession at the moment. And I finally had to come to the conclusion that at the moment I can not clean the windows, as Rubes is too difficult to keep entertained during that time - the kitchen (where the most spidery web windows live) she is bored with as she has to be in there while we make dinner and she is quite disagreeable at the moment because as I have said before - she is getting all her bottom teeth at once - it's a swollen sore mess. The molars seem to be coming through first with the most white there and the front milky teeth are not far behind and the ones in between bringing up the rear.

This is my life. I obsess about small stuff, usually cleaning related and I start projects and never finish them. I have a pile of recipe magazines (the only ones I buy) in the lounge because I keep attempting to cut out recipes and get rid of the rest. I started this project when I WAS PREGNANT. I am pretty much on the go from when I get up (6 or 7) to when I go to bed (9-11) and if I take time to do something for myself then something else doesn't get done. During naps yesterday, I read books, which was GREAT and something I do very little of, but I was a bit tired from the wine DrMr and I drank the night before (ahem), so had NO MOTIVATION to get scrubbing or tidying or washing. I don' have people over because I am one of those people who LIKES a clean house, but can't be bothered doing it for company. And I AM AWARE that none of my friends give a shit about clean.

Ok long point to say, I AM FAIRLY NEUROTIC. There you go. I am not complaining about my life, I am just saying I AM NORMAL and INCREDIBLY BORING.

2. Anyway, I thought that was too wanky and you know what, COMPLETELY NORMAL for any working parent, so SHUT THE HELL UP Sally Morrigan. SO INSTEAD, I was going to post some pics of Rubes and I at the park yesterday. We have a lovely lake in the middle of the suburb we live and I often forget about it, but I am trying to take Rubes more fun places to distract her from her sore mouth (and tire her out, as naps are currently a time of hysteria) I just put her down for a nap, and she is not crying, but she is singing and kicking her cot so hard that it sounds like there is a team of tradesmen upstairs remodeling the bathroom. As long as there are no tears, I am happy. She'll tire herself out. Eventually.

For once the sun was out.

And so were the ducklings. They will let you get quite close if you throw bread at them.

We stopped for a swing and a slide.

Then a biscuit and drink of water in the sun and home again.

I think every mix tape I have made for the last 2 years has contained this song. I last saw them at the corner and it was WONDERFUL. With lots of serious and intense ladies, who took the whole thing VERY. SERIOUSLY.

Rubetober Continues

Rubes is at an age where she insists on feeding herself or hysteria ensues. We have a lot of finger food, vegies, fish, chicken etc, which she smushes up and gets it vaguely in her mouth, down her top and on the floor.

After a fish dinner (in her hair is proof), we have a pureed fruit dessert.

Why use a spoon, when you have HANDS.

Sometimes even HANDS get in the way.

Is the camera really necessary?

There IS a party in my tummy

At home for a quiet day with a sore belly, tummy upset thingy. I NEVER get a day on my own, so I am tempted to do a million things JUST BECAUSE I CAN. But the tummy ache is sending me back to the couch.

Feel Good Thursday

Today Ruby threw my keys down a drain in the street. I had to lie on my belly (in a skirt) in the gutter with my hand down the drain to retrieve them.

mark your diaries - massive fabric sale!

Love Cake

Ok, while this is totally safe for work, I don't know if it's actually a little bit dirty, or if that is just me. Anyway, it's ADORABLE and bake-happy, so please enjoy my love cake for you.

Working from home with a handsy 11 month old is tricky, to say the least.

I always laugh when people email me asking for work experience or if I need an assistant. "Sure, can you take Rubes and Georgie for a walk while I finish photographing these brooches. Then can you do a load of washing and take something out for dinner? Also, Rubes spilt water from lunch, if you could please wipe up the floor over there". It's really not fancy in behind the velvet curtain of Georgie Love. I am working around grabby hands.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's totally been Rubetober so far, but there is not much else going on here at the moment.

an ordinary Tuesday

It's a fairly miserable Spring day here in the hills, 14 degrees in the city so about 11 or 12 here. It's been hailing on and off for hours

We are hanging out inside, putting new things on Georgie Love, playing around and eating all the toys, trying to prevent the baby from roughing up Georgie dog or destroying DrMr's books.

I went outside to put some rubbish in the recycling bin, and there in the drive way is a peacock. A PEACOCK. What?

He was fairly spectacular.

Hello Giant Blue Birdy (Bec, it was probably lucky you didn't visit today!)

He visited for a while and then wandered off. Are peacocks lucky? I am going to assume yes. A random peacock in your yard is a lucky sign.

We had a lovely weekend with DrMr's family in Albury. Will write more tomorrow (am tired), but briefly:

It was wonderful to see new growth everywhere after the bush fires. It was odd and eerie to drive through - these tall, tall trees that were blackened from the root to the tip and imagining how high the fire would have been and also how there was devastation in one pocket and not 5 metres behind was untouched. It was moving.

Rubes pretty much had this expression all weekend, she had a WONDERFUL time and slept 12+ hours solidly every night, didn't complain at all in a entire weekend of 13 hours driving, was easy to feed, ridiculously happy and charmed the socks off of everyone.

She's just started doing new things - this crazy new version of pretend talking (mostly to the newly favoured Remington Bear) and pointing to things "At At"... which I am assuming is "that, that" as it's pointing for stuff she wants. Which in this photo is her mama behind the camera as she was upset and a bit teary as a tiny little miniature something named Brutus licked her on the face. Rubes is like me - big dogs are awesome and small dogs are not to be trusted.

Have a million things to catch up with for Georgie Love, but I will get there. It's weird, we were there from Friday - Monday, but we both feel like we had a week off. Probably because the only other option was watching rereuns of NCIS and Midsomer Murders* with his parents, so we went to be at 7:30 or 8:30 most nights. Brilliant.

(* Sally Morrigan does not watch cop/crime shows. With the exception of 24, which was not necessary cop or crime shows, it was political and Kiefer Sutherlandy in it's nature.)

Still cheating

Hey, we will be back to our regularly programmed schedule TOMORROW, but through the power of the INTERNET and my CHEATY ways, I am still blogging every day for BLOGTOBER, even when I am AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. Yes, I am magic!

I borrowed this from the library, thinking it was going to be DREADFUL. It's way better than I remembered. But the 1990s were AWFUL for fashion. AWFUL. It's all baggy shirts and pale denim. I hate pale denim. This is important for you to know.

Little Drunko

I call this video little drunko. I had to stop filming because I started laughing so hard. We were listening to the Glee soundtrack, which DrMr downloaded and Rubes usually dances too. I was trying to secretly film her dancing, but she was a little spaced out from her cold.

Hope your weekend is a good one! Tina, I woke p at 5:20am thinking of your haircut! Hope it is magnificent!

Cheaty McCheaterson

Some days getting anything done proves impossible. Big Georgie Love update coming when we get back next week. It will be good, you'll see.

Hands up if you guys are also loving Glee? How FUN is it?

Yes, I cheated on day two of Blogtober, but I am leaving early in the morning and traveling all day. Sometimes a little pinch and tuck there is necessary.

Got to go finish packing, ack.

Hello Angry

Dear National Australia Bank,

I think when you decide to randomly charge my account $19.90 in fees and then be incapable of giving me an explanation of those fees when I call and query them, is complete bullshit. No I do not want to call you tomorrow and find out what those fees are, I want an answer when I call. If you charge me, you better well be able to explain it to me. AND I know for a fact that even those in INBOUND CALL CENTRES can STILL MAKE OUTBOUND CALLS, so I don't think it's unreasonable for me to ask that you call me when you DO find out what the hell is up. Goddamnit. It's called customer service people.

Dear Blog visitors,

I am sick of writing these DEAR SO-AND-SO posts as much as you are sick of reading them, but I have signed up for BLOGTOBERFEST (which is going to be interesting since I am going away tomorrow for 4 days to a place without internet and no, I don't have one of those fancy-pants iphone, I have a Samsung I hate that refuses to die as much as I let Ruby play with it and throw it to the floor, so I don't have an excuse yet to buy an iphone and blog from it when away from the computer) so I am going to have to pull some fancy work out to find something to say every day for a month. Other than bah, huh, uh and meh.

Ruby has another cough and cold. When she sneezes she leaves trails halfway across the room.

I am not ready to say FML, my life is usually pretty nice, but I am in the mood to kick things.

Love for you, a cup of hot tea and maybe a hug.
