Phew. A lot is going on. DrMr is away in Portugal on a conference for 8 DAYS AND NIGHTS. LIFE MUST GO ON. SOMEHOW. Ruby continues at school and acting out with Daddy away. Lots of questions about who will make her bed and look after her IF I DIE. Lola started daycare this week as an induction and my 3 day a week new job at the Uni starts NEXT week. I accepted a position as Prez of Rubes' preschool committee a few weeks ago and I did not realise how much work it would actually involve. Did you know? I ALSO PRETEND TO RUN AN ONLINE BUSINESS.
I will revaluate this pool of self pity WHEN THE WINE RUNS OUT.
I have been a bit slack this week there is a lot going on life wise: baby with a cold, me with a cold, possible job interview, lots of work for Rube's preschool committee and all of that LIFE stuff. I feel so busy and my head is so full and yet I am at home with a baby most of the time? It's odd how the days move and change and fill with kids.
Also we decided to make it LEGIT a few weeks ago, but the ring finally arrived this week. I think I have (almost) told everyone I should have, but the drmr and I are finally tying the knot. In theory. We have not decided any more details other than, LET'S DO IT. And maybe elope, even though we have someone we love IN AUSTRALIA who we would like to marry us. So we will see and maybe talk about the next step in another 6 years.
Also for this week our Georgie Love offer is FREE SHIPPING to all. With the code LEGIT. Because in the words of MC Hammer, I am too legit to quit y'all. With lots of new things in store, it's an ace time to have a look.
GOOD MORNING. I woke up at 6:30 this morning, a freaking sleeping in, so I AM FEELING JOLLY. As such, I spontaneously decided this morning that the Georgie Love DEAL OF THE WEEK would be 20% off HATS, SCARVES & BELTS.
Why Sally that is a great offer, what do I need to MAKE IT HAPPEN. Well my friend, thanks for asking, if you use the code SNUG it will happen FOR YOU. LIKE MAGIC.
Now, let's have another cup of coffee and throw some ganache icing on this chocolate cake I made yesterday. We are having someone over for DINNER.
Ok, here is the truth. I wake up at 5-5:30 every morning and I HATE IT. I AM a morning person, but I don't consider that time as morning. Lola wakes up at that time every morning and so she is up, I am up. I bring her to bed for a feed and try and convince her that as it's still PITCH DARK it's SLEEP TIME, but she responds with some slaps and grabs to the face and kicks to the ribs (see image ref above, it's a magic snow angels / jazz hands combo). My kids are subtle in their tactics. DrMr, cognisant in the fact he will be lecturing in a few hours, grabs the spare doona and goes and gets a few more hours sleep on the couch.
I have tried putting her to sleep later which works a little, but she is usually so tired that she will fall asleep mid anything around 6-6:30pm, so beats me in that game anyway.
She fortunately WILL fall back asleep around 6:30am, where I manage to grab another 5 minutes sleep before Ruby comes in shouting I AM AWAKE AND I DO NOT WANT TO STAY IN BED AND WAIT FOR THE SUN TO COME UP (we have this ace grobag clock which has a simulated sunrise at 7am when Ruby is ALLOWED to get out of bed and come see us, but I put her back in her bed at least once. Despite emphasising this point over 1000 times, it has not stuck). Of course, shouting her morning greeting is enough to wake Lola up, who springs awake again mid grin like a jack-in-the-box. My soul cries deep tired tears of sleep deprivation as I start the day as I will end it: HIGHLY CAFFEINATED.
PHOTOS - with the online obsession (self included) with apps like hipstamatic and instagram and the 1,000,000 more out there, I wanted to introduce you too a new super cute one. La Photo Cabine. Based on the old fashioned photo booth, it uses your computer's cam to take images. You can edit them a wee bit before downloading, printing or sharing. Yay!
As I have said before, I have a ton of vintage dresses that I need to somehow photograph and get online (a friend of mine had a great idea about asking to hire one from an op shop for a weekend, am getting on to that), so my DEAL OF THE WEEK this week to make way for the DRESSES THAT I HAVE BEEN PROMISING FOR ETERNITY (or at least since October last year), use the code VINTAGE for 20% off vintage pieces from 1950s (like pictured) and above. Hooray!
I don't know why I am telling you this, but Ruby came home a long time ago from her old daycare with a new word we adopted. They used to call that twin barrel of snot that little kids sneeze or let ooze out of their nose "bless yous". And Ruby would say "Mama, I have a bless you, I need a tissue". SO MUCH MORE CIVILISED than saying "Mummy, I have snot all over my face". Bless yous. My phrase of the day, in case you never knew what to call this magic phenomenon.
Lola was bested by a biscuit at the Armidale Show over the weekend.
The reason it is on my mind at the moment, is that Lola is in the midst of teething hell. They have been threatening to come through FOR WEEKS, it started with a little cough which let us know (that and the chewing and whinging) that they were coming, and they STILL haven't popped through. It's developed into a runny nose and bless you extravaganza, so surely those teeth are about to pop through ANY FREAKING MINUTE.
Hey SUMMER IS OVER, as odd of a summer it was, and now all this terrible FLOODING everywhere. I saw on the news that 3/4s of NSW was at risk of being flooded or was flooded. That some areas had received more rain in a DAY` than they had received in TEN YEARS. It's odd because Armidale is supposed to have a lot of summer storms, but it's been quite dry and I have been waiting for the rain that the rest of the state has been having, but for the first time this summer really, it's been dry and warm. Odd. If you are reading this, I hope you are WARM and more importantly DRY and that everything and everyone you love is safe and happy.
Anyway, when we told people that we were moving to Armidale, EVERY response was "oh Armidale is beautiful, but be prepared, because it gets VERY COLD". So I kind of have it in the back of my mind that we might all FREEZE TO DEATH, so I have been on a somewhat premature mission to buy all the warm clothes I can find to bundle us all up in. There have been jumpers and snowboots and fleecy things suddenly appearing in the shops and I have been BUYING THEM ALL. I have bought Ruby new gumboots, snowboots AND ugg boots. Because I like overkill.
So as a result, I have been excited to see wintery things slowly coming on to Georgie Love too. I have some new things from Petrafanella and more to come (including warmer skirts from Pearl and Elspeth and new woolly fuzz from Zooblast too). WINTER THINGS MAKE ME HAPPY. I am going to buy one of these cowls/snoods from Petrafanella. Pure wool, thick and snuggly, it's right up my alley and the colours are perfect.
We have a new member of the family. Her name is KITTY. It was originally TWINKLE, but Ruby changed her mind and is calling her KITTY instead. I am more of a dog person than a cat person, but KITTY is rather lovely. She was horrendously dumped with a belly full of kittens in the river, but she has had them, recovered well and is now home from the RSPCA with us. She and Georgie are getting along surprisingly well, but he has mellowed out in his old age. He has had a few sniffs as she wanders by and then they will lie together on the floor in the sun. She is playful and chatty and gentle and loves pats. She also is a bit of a hunter, which is good for the mouse partying in the pantry, but we will need to keep her inside at night for the frogs and birds and other wildlife. She is nice, isn't she?
Sally doesn't necessarily make stuff, she's obsessed with the stuff other people make. Being "blessed" with her father's sausage like fingers (and one too many accidents involving children's scissors and clag), Sally was forced to abandon any ideas of a crafty creative future.
http://www.georgielove.com is her website. Georgie is her dog. Other than that, she is a 36 year old geek-girl mama who likes comics, animals, music, apple computers and the sofa. She has a good heart but some really bad dance moves.
